Burge to Present on “The Ethics of Artificial Intelligence for Lawyers” at 2023 PIABA Annual Meeting and Securities Law Seminar

On October 25, 2023, partner Jason Burge is slated to speak on “The Ethics of Artificial Intelligence for Lawyers” at the Public Investors Advocate Bar Association’s (PIABA) 32nd Annual Meeting and Securities Law seminar. The four-day event offers everything from presentations on securities mediation, cross examination tips and techniques, and dealing with rogue arbitrators to updates on specific cases, a discussion on crypto litigation, and a diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) workshop. During their presentation, Burge, alongside Jeffrey Koncius (Kiesel Law) and Prof. Elissa Germaine (St. John’s Law School), will explore the emerging use of Large-Scale Language Models (“LLMs”), like ChatGPT and Bard, in the legal services world. The panel will discuss both the opportunities LLMs create and the ethical challenges they present. The goal of the presentation is to share how attorneys may use these AI systems intelligently while minimizing the risk of introducing misrepresentations and errors into their practices.

Established in 1990, PIABA is an educational and networking international bar association for attorneys who represent public investors in securities disputes. Burge is the editor in chief of the PIABA Bar Journal, which publishes three volumes annually on topics relevant to investor attorneys.
