Tad Bartlett to Present on Judge James L. Dennis’s Environmental Legacy at Louisiana Law Review Symposium

Fishman Haygood Partner Tad Bartlett, head of the firm’s Appellate Section, will present on the environmental jurisprudence of Judge James L. Dennis as part of the Louisiana Law Review‘s “Symposium Honoring the Life and Work of Judge James L. Dennis” on Sept. 24, 2026, at the Paul M. Hebert Law Center. Organized by the Louisiana Law Review Volume 87 Board of Editors, the symposium celebrates the career and contributions of Judge Dennis, who served on the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit for over 30 years.

As part of the half-day program, Tad will speak on “Constitution, Courts, and the Public Trust: Judge Dennis’s Environmental Legacy.” The event features distinguished speakers addressing topics reflecting Judge Dennis’s wide-ranging influence, from his legislative career and Louisiana Supreme Court tenure to his impact on Louisiana civil law and federal appellate jurisprudence.

While at Tulane University Law School, Tad served for a year as a research assistant to the Hon. Ruth Bader Ginsburg and Judge Dennis for a class they team-taught on comparative international human rights law. He then went on to serve as a judicial law clerk for Judge Dennis from 2000 to 2001.

Tad is an Appellate Practice Specialist certified by the Louisiana Board of Legal Specialization and serves as the 2026-2027 Secretary of the LBLS Appellate Practice Advisory Commission. He runs the Take the Fifth blog, which digests all opinions released by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit, summarizes all opinions designated for publication, and tracks statistics on opinion releases from the Circuit. Since 2019, he has also co-taught an advanced seminar on Coastal Law Litigation & Policy at Tulane Law each spring.
