Steven Serio Negotiates Lease for Rouses Markets’ First St. Bernard Parish Location

Fishman Haygood Partner Steven Serio negotiated the lease for Rouses Markets’ first St. Bernard Parish location, a new 47,694-square-foot store set to open in Chalmette in the second quarter of 2027.

The new store will be located at 8700 W. Judge Perez Drive, redeveloping space formerly occupied by Big Lots and Sav-A-Lot along a commercial corridor that has sat largely vacant. As part of the project, Rouses will also resurface the shopping center’s parking lot. The Chalmette location will become Rouses’ 77th store and will feature a full-service butcher shop, seafood market, bakery, prepared food offerings, and specialty departments found across the chain’s other locations.

Rouses is a longtime Fishman Haygood client. The firm’s relationship with the Schriever-based grocer dates to 2007, when Rouses acquired the Southern Division of A&P Grocery Stores, a transaction that doubled the company’s store count from 12 to 24.

Founded in Houma in 1960, Rouses has grown into one of the largest independent grocers and fastest-growing family-owned supermarket chains in the United States, now operating 76 stores across Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama. The Chalmette location reflects both Rouses’ continued regional expansion and the ongoing economic momentum in St. Bernard Parish.
