Steve Herman Receives American Association for Justice Distinguished Service Award at Annual Conference

Fishman Haygood Special Counsel Steve Herman received a Richard D. Hailey Distinguished Service Award at the American Association for Justice (AAJ) Annual Convention in Chicago last month. The award recognizes members of the AAJ Board of Governors who during the past year have been of special assistance to the president of the association. In addition to his service on the Board and the Executive Committee, Steve served as Chair of the Amicus Curiae Committee and Chair of the AI Task Force.

AAJ is the world’s largest plaintiffs’ trial bar, with members throughout the United States, Canada, and abroad. Through advocacy, networking, and education, AAJ provides resources to practicing attorneys and to aligned state trial lawyer organizations, while promoting the civil justice system in Congress, regulatory bodies, and the courts.

In addition to receiving the distinguished service award, Steve was also sworn in as an AAJ Officer during the conference. In this role as Parliamentarian, he will advise the presiding officers on questions of parliamentary procedure, as well as the association’s charter and bylaws.

Steve’s involvement in trial lawyer associations runs deep. Prior to his uncontested election as Parliamentarian, he served as President of the Louisiana Association for Justice, the National Civil Justice Institute, and the Civil Justice Foundation, as well as a member of the National College of Advocacy (NCA) Board and Treasurer of the AAJ Endowment Board.

Steve maintains a broad civil practice spanning commercial, class action, and professional liability matters. Notably, he was appointed in 2010 to serve as one of two Liaison and Lead Class Counsel for all businesses, individuals, and local governments involved in the Deepwater Horizon/BP Oil Spill litigation.

Beyond the courtroom, Steve teaches an advanced torts seminar on class actions at Loyola University New Orleans College of Law and an advanced civil procedure course in complex litigation at Tulane University Law School.

Steve’s latest honor reflects the depth of service and leadership he brings to Fishman Haygood’s clients and to the broader legal community.

Congratulations to Steve on this well-deserved honor!
