Kerry Miller to Participate in Co-Ed Discussion of Implicit Bias & Legal Culture at Upcoming CLE Event

On March 11, 2025, Fishman Haygood partner Kerry Miller will take part in “A Seat at the Table,” a co-ed discussion of implicit bias and legal culture hosted by the New Orleans Chapter of the Federal Bar Association. The CLE is co-sponsored by the Eastern District of Louisiana, the Association for Women Attorneys, the Greater New Orleans Louis A. Martinet Legal Society, the Louisiana State Bar Association Young Lawyers Division, and the New Orleans Bar Association. Learn more about and register for the event here.

While our legal system is based on the principles of fairness and equity, statistical and anecdotal evidence shows that our courtrooms and law offices are not always fair and equitable in the treatment of lawyers. In this CLE, presenters will act out common scenarios within legal organizations and legal culture—for example, a hiring committee meeting, mentorship assignments, junior attorney evaluations, and file-staffing or promotion discussions. Topics addressed in these hypothetical situations will include issues like affinity bias, performance bias, the maternal wall, and intersectionality.

The CLE will encourage an interactive discussion, giving both the panel and the audience the opportunity to comment on each scenario. The goal of the event is to share lived experiences and provide concrete advice on how to handle similar situations if—and when—they arise.
