John Bel Edwards Speaks to Loyola Law Students on Lawmaking, Advocacy, and Client Impact

On February 25, 2026, Fishman Haygood Partner and former Louisiana Governor John Bel Edwards spoke to students at Loyola University of New Orleans College of Law as part of a program hosted by Loyola’s Career Development Office in partnership with the Louisiana Association for Justice Young Lawyers’ Caucus.

The event, titled “Behind the Curtain: Lawmaking, Advocacy, and What It Really Means for Your Future Clients,” offered students an inside look at Louisiana’s legislative process and the practical realities of advocacy. John Bel joined a panel of accomplished Louisiana attorneys in discussing how laws are shaped, how advocacy influences outcomes, and what those processes ultimately mean for clients and communities.

The program was open to all Loyola Law students and provided an opportunity for candid dialogue about professional pathways, public service, and the responsibilities lawyers carry in shaping policy and advancing justice.

John Bel’s participation reflects Fishman Haygood’s ongoing commitment to mentoring and engaging with the next generation of legal professionals. In addition to his practice, John Bel serves on the Louisiana Association for Justice Board of Governors for the 2025–2026 term.
