Fishman Haygood Partner Kaja Elmer Appointed to Association for Women Attorneys – New Orleans Board

Kaja Elmer, a partner in the firm’s Litigation Section, was recently appointed to serve as Member At-Large on the Association for Women Attorneys (AWA) – New Orleans board of directors. In this role, Kaja will assist in planning the local chapter’s events, curating content for the group’s CLE programs, and overseeing its membership, which includes all sectors of the legal community—from private practitioners, professors, and judges to law clerks, students, and more. The AWA seeks to exchange information among its members, to encourage women attorneys to participate in the economic and social decision-making within their communities, and to improve the status of women in the legal field and society. In addition to professional development, networking, and social events, each year the AWA initiates a community outreach project. The organization has offered volunteer opportunities, hosted fundraisers, and solicited donations for groups like Grace House, The Pro Bono Project, Youth Empowerment Project, and many more. Beyond her day-to-day practice, Kaja is similarly involved in community engagement efforts. She often represents pro bono litigants in federal and state courts and is a member of the Eastern District of Louisiana’s Civil Pro Bono Counsel Panel. Kaja maintains a strong interest in civil rights, having participated in the Civil Rights & Constitutional Litigation Clinic at Seton Hall University School of Law, her alma mater.
