Fishman Haygood Announces Election of John Bel Edwards to Partnership
February 3, 2026
Fishman Haygood is pleased to announce that John Bel Edwards has been elected to the firm’s partnership, effective February 1, 2026.
John Bel served as Louisiana’s 56th governor from 2016-2024. He was previously a practicing attorney in Amite, Louisiana, and later served eight years in the Louisiana House of Representatives. During two terms as governor, he led major initiatives in economic development, Medicaid expansion, coastal restoration, budget stabilization, and energy transition, guiding the state through historic natural disasters and the COVID-19 pandemic while advancing both traditional and renewable energy strategies.
John Bel remains deeply engaged in national and regional policy efforts, including service on the Bipartisan Policy Center’s Energy Advisory Council and the GNO Energy Alliance. His experience navigating public policy, crisis management, and large-scale infrastructure and energy initiatives brings a unique perspective to the firm’s growing energy and litigation practices.
“John Bel’s leadership, judgment, and deep understanding of Louisiana’s legal, political, and energy landscapes are unmatched,” said Jim Swanson, partner and board chairman. “His career reflects the very best of public service and legal excellence. We couldn’t be more thrilled to welcome him to the partnership.”
