Fishman Haygood represents Starkville Pride

Fishman Haygood lawyers Alysson Mills and Kristen Amond, along with the law firm Kaplan & Company, LLP, have filed a lawsuit in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Mississippi on behalf of Starkville Pride, which is led by Mississippi State University students Bailey McDaniel and Emily Turner.

The complaint alleges the Starkville, Mississippi Board of Aldermen’s refusal to permit the city’s first gay pride parade violated plaintiffs’ First Amendment rights. After the complaint was filed, the Board reconsidered and approved the parade, with Starkville Mayor Lynn Spruill issuing the tie-breaking vote.

Starkville, Mississippi’s first LGBT Pride parade will be March 24.
