Fishman Haygood Aids Treatment Center in St. Landry Parish

A residential substance abuse treatment center can now open in St. Landry Parish.

Acadiana Addiction Center purchased property near Sunset, Louisiana in May 2014, with plans to open a facility for recovering addicts and alcoholics. After the purchase, residents successfully petitioned the St. Landry Parish Council to pass regulations that would have prevented the facility from opening.

Fishman Haygood filed suit in March 2015 on behalf of the Center, arguing that the council’s regulations violated the Fair Housing Act and the Americans with Disability Act. In light of the lawsuit, the Parish Council voted in early April to approve a settlement allowing the facility to operate.

Fishman Haygood attorneys Brent Barriere, Skylar Rosenbloom, and Jesse Stewart represented the Center in the matter.
