Fishman Haygood Phelps Walmsley Willis & Swanson, L.L.P. was founded in the mid-1990s by leading business and litigation lawyers from three of the most prestigious law firms in Louisiana. Having established reputations as leaders in their fields, Fishman Haygood’s founding members sought to create a “boutique” law firm to deal with complex and difficult legal and business matters. With eight partners and eleven associates, Fishman Haygood maintains a small-firm, dynamic structure that allows it to develop expertise in a variety of specialized areas of law to provide innovative solutions to its clients’ various needs.

Fishman Haygood’s lawyers are regularly recognized as being among the best. Based on personal interviews with clients and attorneys across the United States, Chambers & Partners has recognized all seven of the firm’s full-time partners as top practitioners in his or her fields.  Chambers has also ranked Fishman Haygood at the top of the list of corporate and M&A law firms in Louisiana for seven years in a row. Notably, Louis Fishman was recognized by Chambers as one of two lawyers in Louisiana designated a “Star Performer.”  The firm has been recognized as a top litigation firm by Benchmark Litigation. Several of the firm’s lawyers are published authors who teach courses without compensation at Louisiana law schools.

Fishman Haygood hires only lawyers who have demonstrated a very high level of achievement. Thirteen of the firm’s attorneys served as members of their law school’s law reviews, with five serving as Editors-in-Chief and five others serving as Managing Editors. Fourteen of the firm’s lawyers were members of the Order of the Coif (or graduated in the top ten percent of their law school class), and eight held federal clerkships prior to joining the firm, including six who clerked for the U.S. Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals.
