Rebecca Sha has firmly entrenched herself in the Litigation Department through her dedication and never-say-no attitude.  Because of her attention to detail and her unending energy, partners assign Rebecca to a diverse caseload because they know that she will be able to quickly learn the details of the case and ramp up quickly.

Rebecca is a litigation associate and joined the firm in 2013. She practices in a broad range of commercial litigation matters, including employment, insurance, and securities law.

During law school, Rebecca was intern to the Honorable Chief Judge Brian A. Jackson of the Middle District of Louisiana.  She clerked at the New Orleans field office of the EEOC where she investigated discrimination charges under federal employment statutes including Title VII, ADEA, ADA, and EPA.  Rebecca also clerked at the office of general counsel for the University of Pennsylvania and Penn Medicine where she worked on employment law and National Institute of Health compliance matters.  She also interned at the office of general counsel for Tulane University where she updated institution-wide policies concerning social medial use and faculty and staff employment handbooks.

Rebecca is active in the local and professional community.  She is a member of the New Orleans Bar Association’s Young Lawyers Section and Minorities in the Profession Committee.  She also volunteers with the Young Leadership Council.  She was selected for the Louisiana State Bar Association’s 2016 Leadership Class. As part of the 2016 Leadership Class project, she collaborated with attorneys across the state to create informational pamphlet on disabilities law and issues.  In 2017, she was selected for Emerging Philanthropist of New Orleans’ Class of 2017, a six month program dedicated to helping non-profit organizations in Greater New Orleans.

Representative Matters

Rebecca has handled a number of interesting matters, including representing:

  • A newspaper company in defending against discrimination charges in connection with layoffs due to restructuring.
  • An apartment complex in defending against a class action lawsuit for wage and hour claims.
  • The City of New Orleans, Louisiana, against its underwriter and remarketing agent, UBS Securities, Inc., for claims arising from the issuance of variable rate demand obligations. The case settled for a confidential amount.
  • The Orleans Parish School Board against its insurers for coverage disputes for damages caused by Hurricane Katrina.
  • Various plaintiffs against the officers and directors of an oil and gas exploration company for breaches of fiduciary duty.
  • A company against its insurer on coverage dispute and successfully remanded insurer’s declaratory judgment from federal court to state court on abstention grounds.
  • A newspaper company in quashing subpoenas directed at revealing the identities of anonymous online commenters.
  • Journalists who were subpoenaed to testify as to their confidential news gathering sources.
