Ms. Mince is a partner in the Litigation Section. She practices in the areas of media law, commercial litigation and tax litigation.
Since 2007, Ms. Mince has been named as a leading lawyer in commercial litigation by Chambers & Partners, who has called her a “bright, organized and meticulous” lawyer with a “superb practice.” In 2010, she was named to the New Orleans CityBusiness Leadership in Law, which recognizes the area’s 50 leading legal professionals based on their professional and community achievements.
In her media law practice, Ms. Mince represents The Times-Picayune newspaper, Cable News Network, The New York Times, ProPublica, Wick Communications, The Nation Institute and others. She is currently representing The Times-Picayune and CNN in litigation against the State Attorney General over the public's right of access to records related to the deaths at Memorial Medical Center following Hurricane Katrina. Other matters litigated for The Times-Picayune include suits seeking access to court records in the criminal, racketeering and civil cases involving former New Orleans Chief Technology Officer Greg Meffert, former Judge Alan Green , former Judge Ronald Bodenheimer , former U.S. Congressman William Jefferson , Al Copeland , Corey Miller (“C-Murder”) , former District Attorney Eddie Jordan, former East Jefferson Levee District Director Alan Francingues , former Judge C. Hunter King , former Insurance Commissioner Jim Brown, Jefferson Parish Councilman John Young , Crescent City Baptist School , attorneys fees awarded in the class action against Shell Oil over sulfur-tainted gasoline, and class action claims against various tobacco companies.
Ms. Mince has also handled Public Records Act disputes against the New Orleans Police Department , Orleans Parish Coroner Frank Minyard , the Jefferson Parish City Council , the New Orleans Aviation Board, the City of New Orleans, Louisiana State University, and HANO.
In addition to access matters, Ms. Mince has successfully defended The Times-Picayune, The New York Times, ProPublica and others in defamation lawsuits brought by William Armington, John Schwegmann, Nicholas Estiverne , Arden Wells , Sheriff Harry Lee, former NOPD officer George Lee, and others.
In her commercial litigation practice, Ms. Mince has represented clients in a variety of matters, including securities fraud class actions and commercial disputes involving Wallace Drennan, Inc., T.L. James, ASCO Freight Management, Berk-Cohen Associates and SMG (the company managing the Louisiana Superdome and New Orleans Arena).
In her tax practice, she has represented the Louisiana Department of Revenue in a variety of state corporate income and franchise tax suits against International Paper, Florida Gas Company, Shell Oil Company, Lafarge North America, Argosy Gaming, BP Products North America, BP Oil Supply, United Artists, and others.
Ms. Mince graduated cum laude from Tulane University in 1992. She obtained her J.D., magna cum laude, from Loyola University School of Law in 1998, where she was a member of the Loyola Law Review. She is the author of "Louisiana Smoked Products, Inc. v. Savoie & Sausage and Food Products, Inc.: If You Like Laws and Sausages." Ms. Mince was elected a fellow of the Louisiana Bar Foundation in 2006 and is a member of Louisiana State, Federal and American Bar Associations. She regularly speaks and lectures in the area of media law, and is on the faculty of Tulane University. |
